An exciting new story. It's quite an epic and will have to be produced in several parts. Part One 'Catalyst' and Part Two "Stand-Off" are available now and just to whet your appetite the following is a short extract from Part One.
"What happened to me?" Avon grated harshly.
"You were one of the collection brought in after an "accident," Troy explained gently, aware of the man's heavy disquiet.
Avon stared at him, "Brought in where?"
"Tarrellian Bio-System Repair Complex..."
Avon interrupted, "What sort of accident...?" frowning as he tried to remember.
"Sorry," Troy winced in pain, "I don't know...I wasn't here then."
This last information caused Avon further concern. He swallowed, then drew a steadying breath. "This accident...how long ago was it?" he rasped apprehensively.
"About twelve years ago, I think, some time before I was allocated here..." Avon was completely stunned. Troy added carefully, "You spent quite a while in a coma, I believe, and since then you've been - well – almost a vegetable!" Breathing unsteadily, Avon looked away. "12 years.." he gasped in a hoarse whisper, staring at nothing.."Who is running the Federation now?" he enquired, keeping his voice deliberately casual.
His companion laughed cynically. "There IS no Federation any more!" he responded, to Avon's surprise. "The known Universe, such as it is, is run by a Tyrant now - one that makes the old Federation look relatively tame - a real Psychopath with a sadistic bent and no scruples! You certainly haven't missed anything!! People are drugged, tortured, disappear now more than they ever did, even when the Federation ran things - and there was more than enough of it back then!"
"Yes, I remember!" Avon recalled bitterly.
Troy continued, "It happened when most of the High Command were wiped out in a resistance trap."
The latter information seemed to please Avon, he looked towards Troy with sudden interest, "Tell me about it!" he requested.
"What I can." Troy offered. "The resistance finally got its act together and persuaded the military to disown its dead Masters and support them. There was a lot of squabbling for a while first one faction would seem to be ahead, then another... you know how it goes..." Avon nodded. "Then, of course, HE turned up and the masses were ecstatic! He was the Ideal Candidate! Everyone joined forces under their new Leader, their "Hero", Earth's Salvation.... What a Saviour he turned out to be... an unparalleled monster!!!" he concluded bitterly, then added with venom, "The sooner someone puts a blast through Blake's head, the better!! No, that's too good for him he should be... " But, at that name, Avon instantly froze, astounded by the words; he interrupted explosively and incredulously, "BLAKE!!"

This tape has Jacqueline Pearce talking to Paul
Darrow. The other side has David Maloney, Gareth Thomas, Paul Darrow

'Solstice' features two of the directors who worked on Blake's 7. Pennant
Roberts directed early episodes including Spacefall, Time Squad (which was the
very first episode to be filmed), Mission to Destiny and Bounty. Mary Ridge
directed for the first time in 'Terminal' but was to return for Rescue, Power
(and I'm really interested in hearing her talk about this episode as I've often
wondered how she felt about the script and what influence she had on the way it
was presented). She was landed with Animals (I doubt anyone could have done
much to rescue that episode except Jan Chapell) , Headhunter and directed the
very last episode, Blake.Paul Darrow and Gareth Thomas are there as usual to give their own perspective on events.
This brings you the latest developments on
the Blake's 7 movie from Paul Darrow himself. This was definitely the 'get Gareth Thomas' tape <grin>. He got to appear with:
Paul Darrow (Avon): the man who shot him
Jim Francis (special effects): the man who blew out Blake's guts
Chris Boucher (writer and script editor) who wrote the script that killed him off.
I'd been hoping that Chris Boucher would get to take part in one of these tapes - he wrote most of my favourite episodes and his influence as script editor was responsible for much of the best dialogue in the series. It'll also be interesting to hear what Jim has to say.
