(a Buffy the Vampire Slayer novella)
July 17, 1998. . .
She closed her eyes and inhaled. "I want you. Here. Now."
"What? On the beach?."
She nodded yes, green eyes aflame. She began to unbutton his shirt.
"Outside?" Alec asked as she started pulling the ends of his shirt out of his pants. "Meg," he said. "It's really late. It'll be light soon."
"So?" "So?" he repeated. "So, someone might see us," he finished, kissing her.
"Someone already has," a voice said behind them.
The couple whirled around, caught completely off guard. He didn't know what he expected, but certainly not the creature that stood no more than twenty feet from them. He felt Meghan slip behind him, uncertain.
"We don't want any trouble," he continued. "Really."
The creature cocked its head to one side. "I want to see you dead."
"No!" creamed Meghan. "We haven't done anything to you!"
"You exist, that's enough." The creature shook its head as it drew a weapon. Powerful legs launchd the creature through the air. Alec tried to defend himself, but it did him no good. The creature crashed into him, buying the sharp stake directly into his heart. Alec gasped in pain, then exploded into a cloud of dust.
Meghan screamed again, starting to run. The creature flashed a feral smile and threw another stake at her, piercing her from behind. As she looked down at the stake protruding from her chest, she burst into ashes that slowly fell to the ground and melded with the sand.
"Maybe next time they'll think twice before dining out," Buffy said as she picked up her stakes and headed toward the boardwalk.

Ethan Rayne looked both ways before crossing the street and heading into the
dimly lit alleyway. He didn't care for such a public meeting place. It bespoke either
recklessness or stupidity in his contact; neither trait appealed tohim in an associate.
Still, Tomaric had instructed that they meet at the stroke of midnight at the deep
end of the alley. Ethan had done his homework as any cautious man should, and
he'd learned that the alleyway formed a cul-de-sac. A perfect place for an ambush,
and Tomaric must have known Ethan would realize it. "Great need often entails
great risk," Ethan muttered to himself as he hopped over the wide puddle at the
alley entrance and started his way down the darkened lane.
"Rayne," the vampire's voice rasped.
"Tomaric," Ethan responded. "Fancy meeting you here."
Tomaric spat, "No small talk. You have it?"
"Right here. And you?"
Tomaric briefly flashed something metallic in his hand. "As agreed."
"The Eye of Agrimatto," Ethan murmured. He could almost feel eldritch power seep from the small amulet. This is no fake.
"You realize I cannot let you have such a priceless vampire artifact. Even for the price you paid."
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "The Watcher's Council database? If anyone's been cheated here, it's me. What if I told you I have something else I'd be willing to give you in exchange for my life?"
I'm always open to negotiation," the vampire hissed. "What is it?"
"This," Ethan spat, breaking a thin water balloon against the vampire's face.
"Holy Water! You bastard."
"It's hardly worse than what you had planned for me." He slammed the stake home, and the vampire vanished in a cloud of dust. The jewel case skittered to the ground. He examined the CD and smiled. "This is Billie Holliday's greatest hits."
So starts another novella by Oshram. Faith is in a coma and the Watcher's Council wants her dead. Ethan "rescues" her and brings her back to life with the promise she will have first crack at killing Buffy. After she helps him bring an ancient demon across, of course. Come join the intrepid gang as they try to stop Ethan and protect Buffy from the only person strong enough to actually take her on and possibly win.
