This zine contains two related novellas which combine to make a novel. In the first novella, "Chance Encounters" (first published in Knight Fantasies) Nick and Methos meet in two different times, the 16th century and after "Last Night," the concluding episode of Forever Knight. In this alternate universe, Duncan has been killed and Methos meets Nick just after he takes the head of Duncan's killer . They take comfort in each other's company, while mourning the deaths of Natalie and Duncan.
From "Chance Encounters:"
As the lean figure moved out of the shadows, his face was limned by the bright lamp overhead. There was something hauntingly familiar about the stance and face of the man. Nick knew that angular face with the patrician nose. He might not have seen the visage in nearly four hundred years, but his almost perfect vampiric memory asserted itself with memories that had been long suppressed.
In the second novella, "The Ties That Bind," Methos disappears while in Paris. He makes a phone call to Joe, telling him that he might have found clues that Duncan isn't dead then he's cut off. Joe, Richie, Nick and LaCroix head for the rescue with surprising results.
From "The Ties That Bind:"
He punched buttons frantically and replayed the message. Again he heard, "Methos. Help me." followed by a click. He sank to the couch, numb. He couldn't think. Was Joe wrong? Where had Duncan been all these weeks if he wasn't dead?

There were more of Horton's followers in the Watchers than anyone realised. When they branched out, deciding to kill not only Immortals but also the Watchers who associated with them, Joe Dawson was their first target. Because he was human and not an abomination, they gave him the benefit of a trial but the trial wasn't exactly fair, even if he did have an Immortal as his defence attorney. Duncan knew that, if he didn't find Joe in time, he would lose two friends, not one.
One. There are only two Immortals left but have they understood the Rules of the Game properly?
Chance Meeting. Alone in Paris, Connor meets an older Immortal who seems to know his Clansman.
The Supreme Irony. Joe is burying his brother-in-law but Duncan says there is something he has to know, about Horton's daughter.
Feelings. Darren Meldrew has been beaten once too often. He isn't an Immortal but a businessman who has a quarrel with Duncan. Just for once, he'd like to be the victor, so he comes up with a plan to make Duncan forget all about business: kidnap Richie and Tessa. Unfortunately, Meldrew is involved with two other Immortals who have no love for Duncan, and the oldest Immortal, deciding that Duncan needs a little help, turns up in Darius's rectory.
An Immortal in Borsetshire. Simon Pemberton has been safe for far too long. Philip Chapman has finally tracked him down and he wants his head.
Occupational Hazard. So many Watchers have died in the last few years that someone decides researchers should be trained for relief fieldwork, and Adam Pierson is not at all happy when he learns who his first assignment is.
Inheritance. Connor has taken on a dangerous student, an Immortal who used to be a Watcher and doesn't want to be an Immortal. When Duncan goes to help his clansman, he is forced to take Hammond's head and inherits a lot of trouble. Hammond wasn't just bitter: he was turning into a pacifist. Methos comes up with a surprising reason.
Alexa's Song. When Joe phones with the news, Duncan is on the next plane to Geneva but Methos isn't ready to break down.
