LOVE'S OBSESSION by Erin Tooley
The actions Spock took during and after their encounter with the cloud creature drove a wedge between him and Kirk.  Now they're facing a new and dangerous mission; one in which their trust in each other will be crucial to their success...
*****Deliberately McCoy sat back, taking on a casual position, sipping his coffee as if the captain hadn't just practically yelled at him. But blue eyes were riveted on him, unwavering. The crew slowly shifted their attention away, conversation picking up again.
"Look, Jim, it's gone on long enough."
"Nothing's 'going on'."
"Come off it, Captain; you know exactly what I'm talking about. Ever since the encounter with that cloud creature you and Spock haven't spoken outside of ship's business. I know you didn't like us questioning you about that blasted creature but you know we had to."
"And that business on Theta Seven?" he snapped.
"Damn it, Jim, the man was doing his job and you know it. Would you really expect, or accept, anything less?"

Madman of Lesath II
By Deborah Cummins
A routine mission suddenly turns tragic when Spock is attacked by an unknown organism. McCoy's tests indicate a radically altered brain function and when the unconscious Vulcan finally awakens and they realize what has happened to him, James Kirk is forced to make the most difficult decison of his life.
*****The captain was teetering on the brink right now, holding it together by the skin of his teeth. McCoy could see it in the stiffness of his back, the hands clenched at his sides. Spock was his strength, his inner strength, but he was also his one true weakness. The doctor understood that, had worried about a scenario like this for years, even before they'd been bonded. Even before they'd become lovers.
There was a very real chance, they both knew, that in the next few days, perhaps the next few hours James Kirk would have to order the death of his first officer.
His friend. His lover. His soulmate.
The very thought was unbearable.

NO PRICE TOO HIGH
by Khiori
On a resupply stopover, Spock is attacked by an unknown assailant...
*****"Yes, Spock. What is it?" His voice was calm, steady, hopefully providing a measure of balance for one apparently unsettled Vulcan.
"I am... in need of transport." Once again, that hesitation. Something really must be wrong if Spock had to work that hard to maintain control.
"Sure. Where are you?"
"Base hospital. Room 17C."
Kirk had to ask, heart crowding the words in his throat. "You okay?"
"I am... functional."

SPIRIT LIGHTS by Addison Reed
On a midwestern camping trip, a campfire provides the perfect setting for a ghost story about lovers from another century...
***** "Crazy Vulcan. I'm trying to tell a ghost story here." James Kirk rolled over in his sleeping bag, inwardly smiling as he lowered his gaze from a darkening sky sprinkled with the night's first stars to the man who lay a few feet away. Spock was cocooned in layers of his preferred camping paraphernalia of woolen blankets, his face shadowy and mysterious in the waning light. . . .
"Explain to me once again the reason behind this tradition," the deep baritone implored.
"It's Halloween."
"Ah. All Hallow's Eve. The Pagan celebration on Terra that precedes All Hallow's Day, which your culture typically exploits as cause for festivity."
Kirk was intent upon the enchanting things the firelight was doing to Spock's face and nearly missed the fact he was being goaded into a jousting match. The twinkle in the dark eyes gave it away and he smiled openly, honored to be trusted with the Vulcan's rare sense of humor. He eagerly took the bait.

PROTECTOR OF LOGIC by Farfalla Caquí
Masquerade party on the Enterprise!  Kirk's mission: talk Spock into going with him.
*****"Can I come in?" asked Jim with a sheepish grin. "If I stand around in the hallway like this for too long someone may take pictures."
Spock stood. "Of course. You are always welcome here." Jim stepped inside and the door shut. "I presume this is your costume for the masquerade?"
"Just put it together at the last minute," said Jim, rotating slowly to show off his handiwork. "I really hadn't decided on anything until a few moments ago. Luckily there's not much to this costume."
"And you are...?"
"Guess."

WALKING ON BROKEN GLASS by Islaofhope
After Vger, Spock has returned to the Enterprise.  But he has not returned to Jim.  Believing Kirk does not truly desire him, he chooses another...
*****When Spock broke the meld, Jim was pale, and his eyes remained closed. "I know," he said in a husky voice. "We knew from the beginning what we risked. But it was necessary. The merging is what your Vulcan physiology requires."
"No more," Spock said gently. "The disciplines I learned in Gol have freed me." He paused and idly traced Jim's eyebrow with his index finger. "They have freed you also, t'hy'la."
"I never asked to be set free," Jim said in a tight voice, opening his eyes to gaze up at Spock.
"T'hy'la, what we did was against your nature. You would never have come to my bed if not for my need."

LOST by Istannor
The inhabitants of the planet Quiroz are hiding a secret - one which is key to Kirk's future.
***** "No!" McCoy shouted, "stop now, or I'll give you a hypo and knock you out my damn self." The human moved to stand in front of him. "Spock, I'm not getting any sensor readings." Spock could see tears running down the face of the human. "There's no one alive in there, Spock." The First Officer turned away, silently to begin again. "Dammit, Spock, listen to me." McCoy grabbed him again. The Vulcan turned and lifted the human with one hand tangled in the front of his uniform shirt.
Spock's voice came whispered through barely open lips. "The bond is intact; he is alive. You will cease interfering with me or I shall have you removed." McCoy gulped as he saw the glare in Spock's otherwise bland face.
